Umar gave the right to ask people about Caliph's property
Once shawls were received from Yaman in the Caliphate of Umar-e-Faqooq Radi Allah Anh. The Caliph distributed shawls among Muslims and take one for Himself too. But when Umar came for Salah He had two shawls on his body. He starts Khutba (talk to people) and said “Listen me and follow me”. Hazrat Salmaan Farsi (RA) said immediately “We will not listen and we will not follow’. Caliph asked “Why?”
Salmaan (RA) replied “You gave single shawls to people each and take two for yourself.” Caliph listen it and replied that you went fast. He called his son Abdullah (RA) and asked to him “Tell people from where I get this second shawl”. Abdullah said “This is my shawl, I gave Him”. Caliph Umar (RA) said to the people “This second shawl is of my son I borrow from him.”
On this, Salmaan Farsi (RA) standup and said “Yes, now we will listen and we will follow”.
